Cantor Max Silverstone, baritone, has always had a passion for Judaism and music. He grew up in New York City as an active member of Park Avenue Synagogue, where he was teaching his Hebrew school classmates the melodies he heard in services as early as second grade. He has also been a lifelong  musician, playing guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano, and ukulele.

Cantor Silverstone completed his undergraduate studies at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, in 2019; where he studied Judaic Studies and Music. On campus, he ran the Conservative Minyan, and sang with the Brandeis Chorus and Manginah: Brandeis’s co-ed Jewish A Cappella group.

Prior to joining the clergy team at Har Shalom, Cantor Silverstone received his ordination from the H.L. Miller Cantorial School at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. In his time at JTS, he was privileged to sing in numerous choruses and A Cappella groups throughout New York City, and lead services at numerous synagogues in the NYC Metro area.  Cantor Silverstone has previously served as Student Cantor at the Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford, CT; as Cantorial Intern at Congregation Beth El in Fairfield, Connecticut; and as Chaplain Intern at Project Ore, a senior center on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

Cantor Silverstone is a lifelong Ramahnik, having spent 17 summers at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires. After growing up there as a camper, he has continued to return each summer on music stuff, teaching “Jewkulele,” leading musical Tefillah (prayer), and running Shira (singing).

Cantor Silverstone lives in Rockville with his partner, Hannah, a teacher at the Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School in DC. In his spare time, you can catch Max rock-climbing, biking, photographing trains, or collecting vintage postcards.
